Map Size and Scale

Importance of Map Size and Scale

Map size and map scale selection have very important consequences for the map’s appearance and its potential as a communication device. Small-scale maps contain large areas of the earth and less specific detail and must use symbols that are more generalised.

The selection of map scale and map size is a very important design consideration because it will affect other map elements.

Thus, in this learning unit you will learn to choose an appropriate map size and a suitable scale. No prerequisites are needed.
